	Every 2 minutes, a woman is raped in the U.S.

	According to the US Department of Justice, there were an average of 223,280 sexual assaults each in years 2002 and 2003.

	"Sexual assaults" are crimes categorized by the U.S. Justice department that include: rape, attempted rape, and other violent felonies that fall short of rape (which it defines as "forced vaginal, anal, or oral penetration").

In 2004 for every 1,000 persons age 12 or older, there occurred:

Rape Statistics

			68% of women are raped by non-strangers
			11% are raped by intimate partners (husbands, boyfriends, etc.)
			7% are raped by relatives
			50% are raped by friends or acquaintances

	Something to think about...
	Less than one-third of all rapes are reported to the authorities. This means that the statistics only reveal a very small amount of the actual rapes that occur!

Rape Situation Statistics

			25% of rapes take place in a parking garage or public area.
			63% of rapes occur between 6 pm and 6 am
			Victims received injuries in over 47% of all rapes
			More than 50% of rapists were under the influence of drugs or alcohol when committing their crime.
			Over 80% of assaults were committed without the use of a weapon.

Age Rape / Sexual Assault Statistics:

			15% of rape victims are under the age of 12
			29% of rape victims are between the ages of 12 and 17
			44% of rape victims are under the age of 18
			80% of rape victims are under the age of 30

Robbery Statistics:

			71% of robberies were committed by strangers
			More than 50% of robberies happened between 6 pm and 6 am.
			Over 65% of robberies used a weapon to complete their crime.
